To Dick Francis. I'm a fan from Israel. I just love your books and wait anxiously every year for the next one. I especially like the characters you portray in your books and of course horses as a back ground is an added bonus. I would like to wish you a happy birthday and please do keep up the good work. I hope you have a very happy birthday. Your books have been a continuous source of pleasure to me for more years than I can count. I buy very few authors in hardback, but you are one of them. I especially enjoy your comments about Americans, which are so much kinder than a lot of authors. Thanks for that.

Happy Birthday, Sir. I continue to admire your writing skill-- many successful authors would continue to churn out formulaic fiction, but with you, it is always a fresh yet satisfying experience. I like to see the months pass, because it means that a new Dick Francis book will be available soon. Thank you for sharing your talent for observation and writing with us. Best Wishes!

Dear Mr. Francis: I have been reading your books since the early 80's and thoroughly enjoyed them. Learned a lot too - palm top computers, wine making, photography, movie making ....... One year even learned how to type by reading your books and typing at the same time. Have a wonderful birthday & many more.

Dear Mr. Francis, You were kind enough to write me two letters after I had written you. At the time (1984-1989) I lived in St. Thomas in the USVI. Since that time I have been writing, and am on my 3rd book. I am fortunate in that there are currently 3 literary agents in the process of trying to sign me as a client, and that publishing seems to be a near reality now, instead of a dream. I wanted to thank you for all your fantastic books, and can say that I have cultivated dozens of readers for you, introducing them to your work. You are truly an inspiration, and I love your writing. Happy Birthday. Your birthday is one day before mine. I never knew that til now! Take care and please drop me a note if you are ever so inspired. My book that is enroute to being published is called ALTAR OF THE ENEMY, and the the one I am in the process of writing is called EXPEDITION INDIGO. I hope someday you are able to read my work and get some enjoyment, as you have given me hours and hours of great reading with all your novels. Thanks again, and best wishes, and here's hoping all your dreams come true this year! Sincerely, Stacy Benedec sbenedec@bizserve.com

Happy Birthday to my favorite author! I've read your books for years and enjoyed every one. My first was Banker given to me by my father because he saw that horses were in it. After that I read seven of your books in seven days and have anxiously awaited each one since. You capture horses better than anyone. Thanks!

You and your family are appreciated for bringing me the sounds and smells of the stables and the horses on afternoons and evenings I've needed a touch of magic. It's the most fun to find which occupation you'll weave in with the horses and the people in the stories become very real. Since I have grown twins, I love Holly and Kit. Your books are morale lifting, and I hope yours is lifted on your special day!

We both wish you a very happy birthday. You have brought much pleasure into our homes with you wonderful mysteries. Wayne had enjoyed you for years, He introduced your books to me when we married 5 years ago and I have bought every one of your books except the latest one. I will be buying it very soon. We have a bookshelf devoted to your books. Interestingly, I have bought 2 copies of your biography, Sport of Queens, and each has different photos included. We found the book fascinating. We enjoy all the research that must go into each novel. thank you for all the pleasure you bring us and we send many wishes for a most happy birthday! Barbara & Wayne Hess, Beaverton, Oregon

When looking for a new author, a colleague suggested I might enjoy reading Dick Francis. That was an understatement! One year later I had read every Dick Francis book available - 30 or so at the time. Since then I read each new book as it is published. They're great. A new one is on the best seller list - I'll be reading it soon. During that year of reading every Dick Francis book I could get a hold of, I even read the non-fiction books. Happy Birthday from a very appreciative fan.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Francis! I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your books and stories, and also to thank you for visiting Washington DC in September. Mr Francis, I hope you had a wonderful birthday. I have, literally, just finished reading 'Field of 13', and I savoured every page. Please write another book with Sid as our hero!!!! Once again, I hope your birthday was wonderful. Thank you for writing so many amazing books. Cathy Cormack, Australia. EMail: cathy@mail.mdt.net,au

Mr Francis, I just need to add that,I drive my local book seller mad by constantly asking him when your next book will be released, and then I buy it almost before it gets on the shelves.....and, them it sits on my bedside table until a suitably quiet time when I can relax and enjoy every word....as a child The Famous Five were my heroes, and, now as an adult, your books hold pride of place. My mum and I read and re read every word - she is starting 'Field of 13' as we speak. I could rave on forever, but I had better stop!! Once again, I hope your birthday was every bit as special as every one of your books has been to me. Cathy Cormack, Australia. EMail; cathy@mail.mdt.net.au

in very small letters, she said, mildly, happy birthday to one of the best writers in the world. deft characterizations, heroes you want for best fiends , husbands and lovers, except, of course for some of the chaps in field of thirteen. you know all there is to know of loss, pain, and courage. reading your books is not just recreation, they are re creation. sorry i'm a day late, but it's a different day over here.

Happy birthday, and thank you for creating characters that I can look up to, who affirm my sense of life. In the race for my favorite author, you have the Edge. (Nevil Shute is a close second!) Best wishes and may you write as long as it pleases you.

Better late than never, I suppose! Happy Birthday, Mr. Francis! I must say my personal favorite hero is Sid Halley and 'Whip Hand' is my favorite book. I couldn't even begin to tell you how often I've read it. I enjoy your easy-to-read writing style, your strong modest heroes and of course the racing. Thanks for introducing us in the States to English racing, although were you to set a novel at Churchill Downs during Derby time I wouldn't complain. And sooner or later I'm getting to the Grand National! :-)
