As a mystery writer, you should recognize my name. If not, go far back into mystery writing in England. Anyhow, you have provided me with many hours of pleasure. I read and re-read your books, and look forward to each new one. The old ones are getting somewhat tattered, I fear, from being over-read. Happy birthday, champion!

Dear Mr. Francis, I would like to take this oppertunity to wish you a Happy Birthday. I would also like to thank you for your wonderful collection of stories and novels. My father was a mounted police officer in New York City (who had never been on a horse until he was forty!), he was the one who started me reading your books. Banker was the first and I have been hooked ever since. I am usually first in line at the library when a new book comes out, and my personal collection has grown to about 19. I have read each several times and never tire of them. If I had to pick a favorite it would be hard, but Banker is sentamental favorite and Reflex I just loved. So Thank You from my whole family, and Best Wishes on your 80th Birthday!

My boyfriend always laughs at my "everything I know I learned from Dick Francis" theory. How wine is bottled? Dick Francis taught me (Proof). What does ANFO stand for? Dick Francis taught me (Hot Money). Flying? Movie directing? Dick Francis. Your writing touches my life every day, enriching it, and expanding my horizons. It is a gift to me, and I thank you for it. Have a WONDERFUL birthday, and blessings on the many to come.

Happy Birthday, Mr Francis. Thank you for writing so clearly about the (sometimes gaping) difference between peoples' public masks and private faces - to name only one insight of many from your books that has clarified my thinking, about the standards of behaviour that I expect from myself, and other people. Your wisdom makes the world a better place.

I am selfishly celebrating your 80th birthday and wishing you many more. I celebrate your life, your health and your books. I hope you will keep writing. I love your books and race to read the newest one. Only, when I race and acquire the material, I gobble it up instead savouring it. Then of course I have to wait for the next one. Please keep writing. I have learned so much about racing in England. It was a whim that I picked your book and started reading it. I have never had enough. Hopefully, one day I will get to the England you have described. I have little interest in London but would love to experience the pubs, countryside and racing. Be well and happy. Congratulations. Dear Mr. Francis, my mother and me send you our very best wishes! You are really one of my favourite writers, and what I find especially fascinating about your books is that they not only suggest an always exellently plotted mystery and disclose some new "piece of life", but also present some highly emotionally involving and psychologically enriching human story and demonstrate a truly noble and understanding attitude to human beeings, so rare and important nowadays. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Thank you for choosing to create real heroes--to show us the heroic side of ourselves--to give us the insight to look for the quiet heroism that lives in others all around us. Thank you for using your writing life to do good, instead of just to do well. This year's book may be a gift to the Queen Mother, but it and all the others have been and will always be wonderful gifts to anyone who is lucky enough to open and read them. May God bless you on your birthday and every day. One of your many admirers, Lydia

Dear Mr. Francis, I've only been reading your books for about 5 years. I only started reading them becuase you came to Northern VA to do a book signing and my mother is a hugh fan, so as a birthday present to her I got one of your books signed for her. She loved it, but had all ready bought it, so she gave me the unsigned one to have. I became hooked. Now I go to your book signings for myself!!! :-) I wish you the best birthday ever. May you and Mary have a lovely year a head of you. Angela

I was pining over a signed copy of one of your books in a used book store but didn't buy it because it was too expensive. A couple of weeks later, I ordered two of your books from Half.com, a used book website, and one of them was...AUTOGRAPHED! I was so thrilled that I had to call all my friends and tell them! Thank you for enriching so many lives with your wonderful insight into the human (and non-human) condition. An entire bookshelf in my living room is dedicated to my prolific-yet-always-fresh favorite writer! (That would be you!) Happy birthday -- Wendy

Dear my favourite cryme mysteries' author! Thank you for all your magnificent stories from the bottom of my heart! I'm your devoted fan for almost 17 years. Your novels are the best ones I've ever read in my life! I'm so happy and thankful for all of them. i'm just worried I'm not able to read them immediately after they are published as I live in Bulgaria. So I use the library copies from the British council library in Sofia. That's the reason I always have to be very patient and wait for your books to come there. The last book I read was "Second wind". I liked it very much! Let's hope I'll be able to read all the other books after it soon! Please keep writing your absolutely thrilling stories! I wish you health, happiness and the best of luck! Many happy returns of the day! Yours sincerely, Antonella.

Thankyou for many years of great enjoyment, and heres to many more. PS My own son is now just beginning to read your books. He is also 10. A very happy birthday, Mr. Francis, and many, many more. I hope you can appreciate the enjoyment you've brought to my life through your novels. I've read them all (over and over) and haven't found any writer yet that can paint such vivid pictures of racing, of the bond between horses and their people, and of how even seemingly nice people can do such rotten things! Your true love and appreciation of horses shines through every time and for that alone your books are far better than any others. All the best! (P.S. Dear Mr. Francis, I discovered your books about 15 years ago, and ever since you have been my favorite author. Before that I didn't even read mystery or your type of adventure novels. You have consumate skill in putting your readers into the middle of your stories. I still say every one should be made into films or TV movies. I just heard about your sad loss of your beloved wife and I am so sorry. I hope you will sustain your spirit and know that she will always be with you. Please have a happy birthday. Edie Boudreau

Have a Happy Birthday. You are indeed fortunate to be in the sunny islands in October. I have lived in Cayman Brac and remember it only gets slightly cooler and windy in the Fall/Winter season. My hope for you is that the barge is not delayed and that you have a very nice party! Sincerely, Pam Bloomquist

Dear Dick Francis, I hope this birthday finds you well, and that you are able to enjoy it with your sons and their families. Your many fans and friends around the world are grateful for the extra effort you have made to create books for us even as you approach eighty years of age. Thanks and congratulations!

Dear sir, I have been reading and re-reading your books for years. I was once told the test of good writers was the ability to re-read their works. If that is so, you have passed w/ "Flying Colors." In this modern world, so many books are printed that are unfit to be read. Your books are always greeted excitedly because one knows that they will always be great. I wish you a happy birthday, and hope that you have many more to come. God bless you.

Happy Birthday, Sir. You are a truly magnificent and inspiring author. I have only read about ten of your books, and I truly cannot wait to finish the rest of them. Your books have been some of the best I have ever read. I would like to commend you on a job truly well done. Keep up the excellent work!!
