I have read your books for many years. In particular, I enjoy the depth of your research into the situations in your books and especially the strength of character displayed by your protagonists. This kind of character seems all too rare these days. Appreciation of horse racing goes without saying. May you have many Happy Birthdays to come!

It's funny. I've had access to the internet for a while now yet it never occurred to me to search for other fans of your books. I suppose it's because whenever I read any of them (and I have them all and have read them all many times over), it feels like the main character and I are alone in the fictional world of whatever speciality you have researched. The actual world just disappears. Thank you for the ultimate escapism, and many happy returns!

When you can share the pleasure of reading a good book with someone it is a joy doubled. My mother always told me, "When you have troubles, escape with a good book". Thank you and Happy Birhtday

I am aware that this is a very belated birthday wish, but want to send it anyway. My own 80th birthday was August 5, 2004. One of the wonderful surprises my chidren did for me was a collection of every one of your books! A very much appreciated gift. I've read all your book and re-read my favorites many times. A friend tried to get me interested in reading Dick Francis almost 30 years ago, but I said, "No, I don't care anything about horses!" Then when I finally read the first book, I discovered how wonderful your stories are and have been a great fan ever since. I hesitate to get personal, but I have wondered if your wife, Mary, was suffering from Post Polio Syndrome. My husband, who died in 2000, was a polio survivor (1937) and was in a wheel chair by the time he died. He was a doctor, became quite interested in the fact that all Polio survivors suffer from the syndrome as they get older. He formed a support group and we were surprised how many are affected. It has been only 15 or so years that doctors have known to diagnose and treat this syndrome. Thank you for the many hours of pleasure you have provided me with your superb books.

A second greeting, wishing you many years of joy and good living. In reading through the comments of your many fans, I am struck by how much we all appreciate and yearn for courage, honesty and goodness. Your main characters always supply that need in us to love an approachable hero. And I agree with others, that you are to model for that hero. Many thanks for decades of beautiful writing. B.

I cannot express how much pleasure your books have given me. I have all of them and re-read them regularly, some for the 3rd or 4th time! I just celebrated my 70th birthday, but refuse to be "Old" yet--I'm still having too much fun. I hope your birthday is a joyful occasion for you and your family. Dear Mr Francis, Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day, and enjoy good health. I have read all your books, many times, since I first read Blood Sport when I was a teen. I enjoy your style, fast paced without being too gory! Also, I admire your ability to show the everyday race track environment and characters. Best wishes!

I have read all your books, mostly twice, sometimes three times. They are books I find it easy to read and re-read, with as much pleasure gained at each reading as the with first time. This, and I have never been or been inclined to go to a horse race meeting. Thank you for the pleasure your books have given me. Happy Birthday.

On your birthday please know that your stories bring us happiness. Happy birthday to you!

Thank-you for writing (with your wife Mary) such a excellent set of books! I am thrilled to learn of them and have for the first time discovered them in the city library. May you both be blessed with additonal years to continue helping people like myself to enjoy reading. I love the way you both write realistic characters that reflect people I meet in life. I am 49 years old and love horses, reading and now the expectations of reading another of your books! Thanks so much - blessing on your birthday coming up in 2005!

Happy Birthday. Your writing has brought much pleasure over the years, your books are like 'comfort food' for me...they've been read, re-read, and some totally worn out. I've bought at least three full sets of your books, hardcover and paperback because I keep sharing them with friends and keep the first editions in reserve . Cheers
